HISTORY OF NEWSPAPERS
A brief overview of the origin of newspapers:
Did you know that Newspapers were the first form of mass media? According to the textbook, Communication Technology Update and Fundamentals by Grant, A. E., & Meadows, J. H., “Publick Occurrences. Both Foreign and Domestick was the first newspaper produced in North America in 1690”. Although Newspapers were created hundreds of years ago, they are still an important medium for mass communication.

MY INTEREST IN NEWSPAPERS
Why I am interested in newspapers and their importance to me:
Before enrolling in The University of Texas at San Antonio, I was a highschool student that had no idea what to do with their life. Everything changed when I was introduced to my high school's newspaper staff. Not only did newspaper help me pathe my career path, but it showed me the importance of newspapers and putting out truthful information. Newspapers help me stay knowledgeable of world problems, expand my vocabulary and my ability to comprehend written information.

Why newspapers should interest you:
Reading a newspaper can prove to have great educational value, keep you well informed and help broaden your outlook of the world. According to a research study by Dr. Dan Sullivan, a professor at the University of Minnesota, “Students that used a newspaper in class did better on standardized reading test than those that did not.''

Your topic was off the beaten path and something that I would have not even thought to mention. ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the graphic you chose to show the communication technology timeline! Sadly I have to admit that I can’t remember the last time I read a newspaper just because I do everything off of my phone now. I didn’t realize newspapers were the first form of mass media! Great job!
